I’ll probably tune in – mainly to ogle the stars – but I won’t make any predictions. Once again, I’ve yet to see any of the Oscar-nominated films. Wait, I think Flight might be up for something – and that was truly a depressing flick. But yeah, the Oscars, over the past several years, are usually a reminder that my husband and I suck at committing to date nights.
We like to joke that Star Wars was our last in-theatre experience – and we’re not talking about the trilogy that came out in this decade.
In the past 12 months, we’ve gone to the movies three times. Sure, we’ve taken the kids to some family films, but those were usually “divide and conquer” events. One of us would take the boys, and one of us would stay home to watch the two-year-old.
In our first few years of marriage, sans kids, we would go to the movies all the time. In fact, we’d usually see at least two movies a month. Now, we rely on Red Box or On-Demand.
Just call us homebodies. We’re having fun, but it’s nice to get out and be a couple, share some popcorn and hold hands as we watch the latest thriller on the big screen.
We definitely need to schedule more date nights. Perhaps this weekend’s Oscar fanfare will inspire us to pick our next flick.
Any recommends or Oscar favorites you’d like to pass along?
