While I love to dress up every once in a while, I long to live in my jeans and t-shirts, or yoga pants, or just about any article of clothing from the athleta site. They really do have the best activewear EVER!
But I do work in a corporate environment, which means I often need to go beyond my basic California casual.
My office actually embraced a new policy last year allowing us to “dress for our day,” so if we have a really quiet afternoon filled with office work and internal meetings, I can actually throw on jeans and a nice blouse. If, I’m meeting with business partners or executives, I need to raise my game.
One wardrobe staple, the classic white button-down shirt, was recently introduced to me with a new spin. I think just about any working girl has this item hanging in her closet. You can throw it under a blazer, sweater or simply wear it with a cute scarf or statement necklace and you look crisp, professional and pulled together.
Still, I often find myself wrestling with the perfect fit. I have a small build – chest included – and I want to find clothes that show my shape – not make me look boxy and swimming in fabric. I know other women who are a little bustier, and their challenges come in the form of puckering buttons and tightness in the chest area.
InStyle Essentials, linked to the famous InStyle magazine, recently introduced a series of white tops that take into account both your chest and cup size, so the shirt is designed to fit your own unique shape.
All I needed to do was give InStyle my measurements – and voila’ – I had a custom top sent to me that actually hugs my curves – or lack of curves – perfectly.
The classic white button-front, a weekend tunic and bow blouse are each priced at $59.99 with free returns and exchanges.
I still have a few other items on my wardrobe wish list, including a new coat I can wear to the office, some sweater tops, chic boots and perhaps a holiday dress that can be dressed up or down for the office. Oh yes, and every item from the athleta site. 🙂 If only I could work in yoga pants … (sigh).
Which clothing items are you hoping to score this season? Any favorite brands you wish to share?
Disclosure: I received a free InStyle Essentials shirt to try out, but the opinions expressed in this post are my own. I wanted to share the details with you since this is such a classic piece that almost every woman needs in her closet.
